BIOGRAPHY

Judy Freya Sibayan is a conceptual artist who works and lives in Manila. Former director of the erstwhile Contemporary Art Museum of the Philippines, she has been the Museum of Mental Objects (MoMO) and its curator since 2002. She has exhibited in major museums such as MoMAPS1, the Hayward Gallery, Vienna Secession, Mori Art Museum, Guandong Times Museum and at the Haus der Kunst Munich. For the past twenty-five years, she has created a body of work of Institutional Critique — parodic self-instituting projects such as MoMO, the Scapular Gallery Nomad; DIY MoMO; 600 Images/60 Artists/6 Cities/6 Curators; Performance Art Consultancy: Life, Art, Criticality and Into the He(art) of the Art Market: A Performance Art Auction at the Art Fair Philippines 2019. She has participated in the 2019 Singapore Biennale, the 2002 Gwangju Biennale and the 1986 Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh. She is co-founding editor and publisher of the online Ctrl+P Journal of Contemporary Art and is the author of The Hypertext HerMe(s), her autobiography published by KT Press in 2014 with a grant from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. She studied fine arts at the University of the Philippines and completed her MFA at the Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles and her DFA at De La Salle University, Manila where she taught for three decades.
